Hi everyone! I hope the sun is shining wherever you are (but not too hard - if you’re anything like Miss Gypsy, you won’t want to walk when it’s too warm outside)! I'd like to start by thanking everyone who responded to my recent Instagram story - now that I’m approaching the end of the novel writing process, I wanted to film a video all about the inception, creation and (eventual) publication of Ellen and Arbor! I hope you enjoy this video - it’s a long 'un but a good 'un, and I’ve broken down...

Hello there, my little Junebugs! Truth be told, I tried to begin this blog in May (and in April too!) I've been so busy polishing up the final draft of my own novel, Ellen and Arbor, that all other writing work has had to take a back seat. And yet when I've not been writing (or painting, of course!) then I have been reading, and I wanted to share a few of my favourite finds for the next time you're stuck without a page turner!

The Freedom Artist by Ben Okri has received a great deal of press att...

May the force be with you, Gallerina Gang! I'm starting this month with a vlog that technically doesn't have anything to do with my writing or artwork. Yet as anyone who's had the pleasure of watching The Greatest Showman will know, 'the noblest art is that of making others happy'! On the 7th May, I had the absolute privilege to be in the audience for the very first night of Hugh Jackman's World Tour: The Man. The Music. The Show. As far as I'm concerned, there's no greater showman (or greater g...

Hi everyone! I hope you're having a good month now that spring has (very nearly) sprung! As you can see from my latest vlog, I recently got the chance to visit not one but two travelling exhibitions at Glasgow's Kelvingrove Art Gallery - Dippy on Tour, getting up close with a famous face from the Natural History Museum, and Leonardo 500, a Royal Collection exhibition to mark 500 years since Leonardo da Vinci's death.

As an enthusiastic art historian as well as an artist myself, I relished the op...

'That Love is all there is,

Is all we know of Love;

It is enough, the freight should be

Proportioned to the groove.'

Happy 2019, Glasgow Gallerina gang! One of the most beautiful Christmas gifts I received this year (or technically last year - doesn't time fly?!) was a gorgeous Folio Society illustrated edition of Emily Dickinson's poems. Here at GG, I hope the next 12 months are going to be full of paintings, poetry and prose, so I thought it would be lovely to start with a blog inspired by some of...

Deck the halls ... can you believe that another year is drawing (literally drawing for me!) to a close? I've been delighted to see my artwork spread its wings and fly to happy customers all over the globe, and also to progress with my debut novel. I'm currently midway through draft three - and my characters are still capable of surprising me! Ellen and Arbor is taking shape in a way that expresses exactly what I wanted my first book to say: a positive, playful tribute to taking your place within...

As regular readers of my blog will know, I end every 'Diary of a Novel' entry with a Bookmark highlighting what I've been reading this month. As a passionate reader as well as writer, I love the opportunity to share books that I've discovered and, of course, to hear your recommendations too! This month, however, it feels like a paragraph just won't be enough. The book I've been reading - or more accurately, the audiobook I've been listening to - has raised so many ideas that are relevant to my o...

Love is in the air at Glasgow Gallerina this week ... on Saturday I’ll be heading off to the wedding of my cousin and one of my very best friends! Funnily enough, the knowledge that this weekend is going to be a no-go for work has actually spurred me on to get a lot done during the earlier part of this week. Two novel-writing sessions in one Monday?! That doesn't happen often (although perhaps it should)! I also, however, have a piece of work to practice for the occasion itself: I was honoured w...
